Best railway ticket booking apps in India

People leave their ancestral places and move to different cities and towns for some reason. These people have to travel a lot. The petrol price has skyrocketed in the last 4 to 5 years. Thus, it’s not feasible to travel in one’s own vehicle unless you’re rich. Railways are one of the cheapest modes of transport in India. Although trains in India don’t travel at speeds beyond 200 Kmph, if you will aboard a super-fast train, you’re more likely to reach the destination quicker in a train than on a two-wheeler. If you’re traveling in a car, and don’t make too many stops enroute, you may reach quickly to the destination. You must book a ticket to travel on the train else the TTE may fine you. How to book a train ticket on Android or iOS? To book a ticket, you can use one of the following mobile applications:

Best railway ticket booking apps in India

IRCTC Railconnect

IRCTC Railconnect

RailConnect is currently the best app to book railway tickets in India. It is a toned-down version of the IRCTC website and provides a better experience in booking tickets than on desktops. Railconnect app lets users sign in with their IRCTC website login credentials. You can also register an account if you’re a new user. Once you log in, you will be asked to set a 4-digit pin. When you set the PIN, you’ll be prompted to enter the PIN instead of the IRCTC login and password. Like the IRCTC website, you’ll encounter ads while using IRCTC Railconnect.

Amazon

Amazon

Amazon introduced a railway ticket booking service in its shopping app in 2020, and to be honest, this feature is an excellent addition to the application. As Amazon Pay is baked into the same application, you won’t have to enter the bank or credit/debit card details while booking the ticket. Some applications may show the latest waiting/RAC data next to the train details immediately after users come across the train list data. Amazon may display older RAC/WL data on its interface. You must tap the refresh icon to see the RAC/waiting list status for a particular train. If you have used the IRCTC website for booking tickets, you may know that some payment services charge extra money on transactions made via their payment gateway. Amazon has zero service and payment gateway charges.

Paytm

Paytm

Paytm was once known as the most popular app for recharging phone numbers, DTH plans, paying bills, booking movie, bus, and train tickets. As in Amazon, it is easy to book train tickets with Paytm. Due to budget constraints, many people will travel in the Second Sitting or the Sleeper coach. The Paytm application provides an option to exclude the AC coaches from the list of train search results. Like Amazon, the Paytm app has zero payment gateway charges, but it charges an agent service fee. The application also enables you to book tickets not and pay later with the Paytm postpaid service. It supports instant refunds on ticket cancellations and has the option to change the user interface language. When you enter the user details in the traveler’s form, Paytm will remember the traveler’s names and suggest them every time you book a ticket in the future.

Google Pay

Google Pay

Another great app to book train tickets in India is Google Pay. GPay is one of the top 3 UPI payment services in India. Thus, if you prefer the UPI mode of payment while booking tickets instead of using credit or debit cards, you can use Google Pay. Google Pay has the same filters as the IRCTC application. It also has these extra train sorting conditions – best, fastest, departure, arrival, and price. The best feature of GPay is its ability to refresh the search availability status of each train before displaying the list of trains. This feature will save some time for the users. This app’s user interface is not as attractive as Paytm’s, and the interface is a bit slower. Google Pay charges zero convenience fees.

PhonePe

Phonepe

PhonePe is the most popular UPI application in India. It has more users than Google Pay, and like GPay, this app enables users to book train tickets. Many features of this application are powered by the ConfirmTkt, a service that lets users check the chances of getting a ticket getting confirmed. PhonePe automatically displays the confirmation chances percentage below the bogie type. Like some applications we’ve covered here, it also shows the current availability status.

Ixigo

Ixigo

The IRCTC website charges Rs 10 when you make the payment using a UPI service. This application won’t charge you extra money if you use the UPI payment method. Another interesting feature of Ixigo is its “ixigo assured” plan with a free ticket cancellation policy. The app also supports instant refunds when you cancel a ticket booked on the Ixigo platform and can display the live running status of the train.

When you transact on Ixigo, PhonePe, Paytm, Google Pay, or Amazon, will you get cashback? When the ticket booking service was introduced in non-IRCTC payment applications, the apps offered a 10 to 50 Rs cashback. The payment apps have stopped the cashback offers. Thus, if you’re looking for a railway ticket booking application only for getting cashback on transactions, you’ll be disappointed.

So these are the best Indian Railways train ticket booking apps in India.
