Oppo introduced the Reno7 smartphone in February 2022. V23, the latest mid-ranger Vivo mobile, was launched in January 2022. The phones support 5G and are priced in the same price bracket i.e. 27000 to 35000 Rs. They look attractive.
Vivo V23 vs Oppo Reno7
Design and operating system
V23’s chassis is built with textured AG glass, which according to Vivo, changes color/sparkles when light falls on it and is tough. Some mobiles belonging to the Reno series had a metallic body. This one has a plastic body, and the screen-to-body ratio is 90.8%.
V23’s screen-to-body ratio is 91.0%. None of the two phones run on the stock Android OS. V23 has Funtouch OS (Android 12). Reno7 runs on Android 11 OS-based Color 12 operating system.
The two phones we’re comparing have a 6.4-inch display, 408 to 409 PPI pixel density, and the same screen resolution i.e. 2400 x 1800 pixels. They also use the same display technology i.e. AMOLED. Thus, the color quality will be good. The maximum refresh rate of the screen of these two mobiles is 90 Hertz. Phone drops and scratches on the screen are common. To protect the screen from scratches and cracks, Reno7 has Corning Gorilla 5 glass. Vivo 23 users must cover the phone’s screen with tempered glass as Corning’s glass does not protect it.
According to Oppo, Reno7 takes DSLR-quality pictures. The Oppo phone has 64 megapixels back camera with an 80.5-degree FOV and 6P lens. This camera has an F/1.7 aperture and supports Electronic Image Stabilization. Along with a 64MP camera, you’ll also find an 8MP wide-angle and 2MP macro camera on Reno7’s backside. The wide-angle camera has a FOV of 118.9-degree while the macro one has 88.8-degree FOV. This smartphone by Oppo has an F/2.4 32MP front camera with an 85-degree FOV and a 5P lens.
Vivo V23 has a higher resolution 50-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera. Like Reno7, it has 64MP, 8MP, and a 2-megapixel back camera. Like its Oppo alternative, it supports EIS only. The Vivo smartphone’s front camera is AF-ready. The Oppo’s 32MP front camera is FF type. The Reno and V series smartphone can record 4K videos at 30 FPS and slo-mo FHD videos at 120 FPS.
Vivo v23 employs a new variant of the MediaTek Dimensity 900 series processor i.e. Dimensity 920. Reno7 uses a processor of the same series but an older one i.e. Dimensity 900. According to benchmark tests, the 920 variant is faster than the 900 variant when it comes to performance, but the battery utilization of the two processors is the same. V23 and Reno7 have an ARM Mali G68 graphics processor.
Storage and RAM
Reno7 features a 2133 MHz LPDDR4 8GB RAM and UFS 2.2 HS-Gear3 256GB ROM. The 8GB RAM variant of V23 has UFS 3.1 128GB storage, whereas the 256GB storage variant of the phone comes with 12GB RAM. The storage technology used in the 12GB version V23 is UFS3.1. UFS 2.2 and 3.1 technologies were introduced in the same year, i.e. 2020. Unfortunately, you cannot expand the storage memory of Reno7 or V23 as the two phones don’t provide a microSD card s
Reno7 packs a 300 mAh larger battery than V23. It has a 4500 mAh battery that you can charge with the 65/50/33 watts VOOC chargers. V23 supports 44-watt chargers, but it ships with a FlashCharge 11-volt charger. As the capacity of Reno7’s battery is larger, it can store more power than V23. Thus, the Oppo phone will last a bit longer on full battery charges than the V23.
Network and connectivity
A USB Type-C port is provided for charging purposes in Oppo Reno7 and Vivo 23. The two mobiles are enabled with 2.4/5.1 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2. Reno7 supports Near Field Connectivity technology. The two phones have a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 5G modem.
Weight and dimensions
A user won’t be able to differentiate between the two phones’ weights as V23 is just a few grams heavier than Reno. V23’s weight is 179 to 181 grams. Reno7 weighs 173 grams only. It is 0.5mm thicker than V23, which is just 7.39/7.55 mm thick. When you put a tempered glass on V23, its weight will increase by a few grams.
Reno7 is around 1500 Rs cheaper than V23. It costs 27599. The 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM variant of V23 costs 34990 Rs. The 128GB storage + 8GB RAM variant is priced at 29900 Rs.
Which smartphone is better? For selfies, V23 is obviously a better choice. If you’re not crazy about selfies, Reno7 is a good choice as it has Corning Glass and a larger battery.
